OConnor Healthcare Consulting
Helping Hospitals and Healthcare Providers Make The Right Decisions At The Right Time
Who We Are
O'Connor Healthcare Consulting is a healthcare consulting firm helping healthcare businesses identify and implement opportunities through operational and financials improvement leading to elevation of patient care and the patient experience.
The firm is managed by Pat O'Connor, a Registered Nurse by background who saw an opportunity to transform the Patient Experience by structurally correcting gaps and flaws in the Revenue Cycle. Pat's experience is unique; he coupled his bedside nursing skills with his Case Management and Utilization Review experience into managing all areas within the Revenue Cycle. These skills are complemented by degrees in Finance and a Masters in Business Administration from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.
Pat has performed many roles on a permanent full-time basis in both the Revenue Cycle and in Hospital Operations, and now provides these services wherever there is a particularly difficult situation in a challenging environment. Pat manages a small team of Revenue Cycle experts, all with substantial skills in project management and various leadership positions within the Revenue Cycle.
Our team focuses on lasting improvements within the Revenue Cycle and Operations. For example, through focused initiatives in chart review, charge review, coding assignment, and revenue capture methods we have produced substantial improvements to the bottom line of organizations without incremental sustained cost. We believe in an elbows to elbows approach, as it best delivers the knowledge transfer and sharing of information to effect lasting change. While others may provide assessments and recommendations, our focus is on immediate lift in key metrics and performance, and delivers value much more quickly. In addition to current state improvement, we provide the changes specific to your organization to comply with upcoming regulatory and reimbursement changes to allow planning, education, and compliance effectiveness - in advance of due datesO'Connor Healthcare Consulting is a healthcare consulting firm helping healthcare businesses identify and implement opportunities through operational and financials improvement leading to elevation of patient care and the patient experience.

What We Do
OCHC provides end to end Revenue Cycle services ranging from interim leadership though cash acceleration/days reduction/optimization of net revenue at the lowest sustainable cost. OCHC also specializes in rapid cycle process improvement initiatives, such as readying an environment for a candidate coming into a permanent RC leadership role (training, onboarding, dashboard setup, key reports, org structure/sizing), formal Coaching programs with RC/Operational leaders with blind spots or significant behaviors hold back performance.
OCHC also has significant experience in both Hospital and Physician Organization operational leadership, in areas such as effective recruitment programs, compensation models, and contracting strategies. One key area of unique competence lies in the ability of OCHC to marry labor costs with operational volumes to create a daily dashboard that changes behavior for organizations challenged with staffing costs, particularly clinical labor costs. Rather than focus on disputable metrics, OCHC creates a baseline based on past performance, and assists in structuring improvements to reach the new goal. There is little “pushback” in this model, and it is deployed within 60 days.
OCHC has performed Coaching roles for senior executives in accomplishing key organizational objectives during change. Examples include monitoring and oversight of various one-time clinical and non-clinical projects to achieve improved efficiency or cost position, taking senior leader ideas to completion.
Why Use OCHC?
You will have the owner working on every project. While this is challenging for OCHC, it is done by limiting the number of active engagements to no more than three, and leaving substantial time for project work. For many projects, Pat personally staffs the project, and almost always will work onsite, side by side with your staff. Other Experienced Revenue Cycle leaders can be assigned based on your preference, and inexperienced staff frankly just won't be assigned to your project.
We hit the ground running, and are able to tap our deep experience to provide quick and lasting results. Your satisfaction with our work is what matters to us, and we are only focused on work, not growing our firm, marketing, or selling additional services during engagements. We say no to projects and additional work as often as we say yes.
We don't disrupt or waste expenses with redundant staff, rather we become a partner with your team members in removing the barriers preventing a more effective operation at a cost that is much lower than others. Our focus is on engaging team members and working in the trenches to ensure traction on initiatives. Very few have this operational experience, and we will focus on keeping costs to a minimum.
